Support, ENcourage and Develop for Children, Inc. (SENDforC) is an Award-winning 501(c)3 Charitable and Educational Nonprofit Organization and the UC Berkeley Chapter is launching our program with Summit K2 High School Students in El Cerrito starting September 2018!

SENDforC Berkeley aims to provide outstanding student-driven K-12 STEM research initiatives and educational programs to foster entrepreneurship among youth and to solve tangible community issues. Developing a STEM mentorship program that empowers K-12 students, especially those underrepresented in STEM, by connecting them with UC Berkeley mentors who will make STEM more accessible, relevant and engaging.

High School Student Objectives
• Students stay with the SENDforC program for 2 years.
• Explore a global and big-picture connection to STEM topic.
• Year 1: Develop an interest, knowledge base and skillset within a STEM topic (“Track”)
• Year 2: Carry out successful projects that make an impact on not only the students who developed them, but also the community around them.
• 100% graduation rate from HS and acceptance into college.

Organization Goals
• Recruit a diverse cohort of UC Berkeley mentors to be trained through a variety of workshops throughout the semester regarding socially relevant mentorship skills and ASUC student organization participation through teaching workshops.
• Trained cohort of mentors gain skills in scientific teaching methods and pedagogical tools for supporting underrepresented students in STEM.
• Develop a culture of community support within the organization and with the school site partnership.

Mentorship Orientation: Sept 16
Mentorship Sessions: Starts Sept 19th, recurring Wednesdays 3:30-5:00 pm at Summit K2, El Cerrito

Mentors: Sept 9th
Leadership: Rolling, until filled. Interview (google hangout) consideration will follow 1-2 weeks after application submission. As a result, early application submissions are highly encouraged.
