Join Councilmember Kendra Brooks, WFP and many others in in Harrisburg on Monday June 10th for a day of action to save public schools and stop vouchers. We will be joining our union allies and movement organizations as hundreds of people go to Harrisburg to demand public funds be used for public goods!
Why is this important? In the upcoming Pennsylvania budget, we have a chance to achieve an historic increase in funding for our Pennsylvania public schools. A Pennsylvania Supreme Court decision last year admitted what we all already knew to be true: our public schools are severely underfunded, and the way they are funded is unconstitutional. At the same time, we’re calling for a rejection of school voucher expansion in any form. Vouchers fundamentally threaten our public education system and take tax dollars away from our public goods and towards private religious schools.
There will be lobby visits from 10am-12pm and then a rally on the Capital Steps at 12pm. We will provide transportation and lunch to and from Harrisburg day of. Busses will leave Philadelphia around 7am and expect to return by 4pm.
The partners for this rally include, but are not limited to: PFT, SEIU 32BJ, SEIU STATE COUNCIL, AFT, COUNCILMEMBER KENDRA BROOKS, ONEPA, MAKE THE ROAD PA, ACRE, PA UNITED, 1HOOD, 215 PEOPLES ALLIANCE, FREE THE BALLOT, NEIGHBORHOOD NETWORKS.
