Kuumba March Break Camp Startup Package

The Kuumba March Break Camp is an innovative mini-camp experience designed for youth in Newmarket. With a strong emphasis on technology and mental wellness, this camp combines hands-on learning with engaging activities to create a dynamic and enjoyable environment for campers.

Key elements of the camp include:

  • Tech-Focused Workshops: Interactive sessions to foster creativity, enhance digital literacy and develop problem-solving skills.
  • Engaging Activities: A variety of fun and interactive experiences designed to build teamwork and community spirit.
  • Skill Building: Opportunities for campers to gain valuable skills while boosting confidence and unlocking their potential for future success.
  • Mental Wellness workshops: Interactive mental wellness workshops centered on Black joy and identity.
This camp aims to inspire and empower youth, leaving them with lasting memories and a foundation for growth. We look forward to welcoming campers on Monday, March 16 - 20 , 2026 at 9AM! This will be a fun-filled, educational and joyful camp where your child(ren) will have the opportunity to express themselves and learn about their African/Black roots.

Payment is required 1 week prior to the start of camp. Please send payment to accounting@naccacommunity.ca  and include "March Break camp” in the memo line.

Kuumba (koo-OOM-bah)

Creativity – using creativity and imagination to make our community better and more beautiful and beneficial than we found it.

NACCA's Kuumba Summer Camp is dedicated to providing an outstanding camp program for Black Youth in our community. To accomplish this goal, campers are expected to behave appropriately and promote a safe, fun and healthy environment through productive participation. We aim to promote African-centred values (care, honesty, respect, leadership and responsibility) in all aspects of our camp program. We ask that all campers and parents/guardians read this code together before arriving at camp. 

As a camper, I will: 

RESPECT 

∙ Be respectful, cooperative and will contribute positively to the experience of fellow campers. 

∙ Be careful and considerate that my actions will not hurt another camper’s feelings or hurt them physically, either intentionally or accidentally. 

∙ Show respect to the camp staff and cooperate fully with their instructions. Always follow directions at all times. 

∙ Respect the rights and beliefs of others and treat others with courtesy and consideration.

 ∙ Respect the personal space and property of others.

PERSONAL SPACE AND PROPERTY

 ∙ Be respectful of all camp property and equipment/supplies

 ∙ Never mark, deface or destroy camp or personal property

BEHAVIOUR 

∙ Conduct myself responsibly. I understand that horseplay, inappropriate touching, unwelcome teasing/bullying or other unkind behaviors are not allowed and will not be tolerated.

 ∙ Communicate in an appropriate manner, which means I will not use foul language or gestures, harsh words or raise my voice.

 ∙ We are encouraging our campers to demonstrate positive behaviors and be mindful of behaviors that cause bodily harm to other campers or staff. 

SAFETY 

∙ Campers must wear closed toe/closed-heel shoes at all times. Campers may bring and wear waters shoes during pool time

∙ Campers need to pay attention to their surroundings and use care in all activities

∙ Campers will adhere to all safety rules and regulations given for each activity he/she participates in while at camp.

GENERAL 

∙ Campers are expected to wear appropriate clothing to camp each day. 

∙ Campers must inform the camp staff if they are experiencing a problem with another camper or other issues. If the staff are not informed about a problem, they cannot stop the problem or assist the camper.

 ∙ We expect all campers to have FUN, but not at the expense of others

 ∙ Campers are encouraged to participate in all activities to the best of their ability.

 ∙ Violation of the Code of Conduct will result in a conversation with staff to assess camper’s commitment to appropriate behavior at the camp.
