Join an ISMIR2024 Newcomer Squad!

Are you attending the ISMIR conference for the first time? Do you feel like a newcomer to the MIR community? Would you appreciate advice and support from a more experienced community member throughout the conference?

The ISMIR2024 Newcomer Initiatives Chairs are excited to announce that this year’s ISMIR conference will offer Newcomer Squads! This initiative will place attendees who are new to ISMIR in small groups on the conference Slack workspace. Each group will also feature a squad “leader” with ISMIR experience who will check in and answer questions throughout the week.

If you answered yes to either of the questions above, you are encouraged to participate!

Am I eligible to join a Newcomer Squad? Yes, if:

  • You will attend the ISMIR2024 conference, either in San Francisco or virtually in your own time zone.

  • This will be your first ISMIR conference (or one of your first).


What can I expect to get out of this initiative?

  • A small and low-pressure environment to ask questions. 

  • A small network of peers who are also new to the community.

  • A connection with an experienced community member.
