Hello and welcome to LOST IN BOOKS! We are a kids' bookshop that speaks your language, and an all-ages community creative hub. Since 2018, we have produced the IN OTHER WORDS Festival to mark International Mother Language Day. The Festival celebrates all forms of creative self-expression, particularly those in languages other than English. It champions diversity and critical explorations of difference. The Festival will run 22 -24 February 2019. We want to hear from artists based in Western Sydney and beyond. We are looking for writers, illustrators, makers, performers, dancers, contemporary artists, provocateurs and ideas-people are all welcome! Please tell us what you would like to contribute - it could be a workshop, a panel, an act, a film program, an installation. We are looking for contributions that spark connectedness, exchange and appreciation of social diversity and are open to all ideas! Pitch by Wednesday, 5 December 2018.
Need more information? In 2018, Lost In Books produced the inaugural IN OTHER WORDS Festival over two days/nights. We programmed more than 60 artist, supported by 35 volunteers. It was extremely hot - and it rained. Still, we attracted a diverse crowd of more than 400 people. We ran three stages - a children's interactive program and intimate screenings/performances for adults in the Lost In Books store; a performance marquee out the back; and an ideas festival in the hall next door. We enjoyed media coverage by The Guardian, FBi Radio, and local media.
