3. RULES & CONDITIONS
(Please read and tick each point) *
Column 1
All students are required to affiliate to SA JKA annually. This is done upon joining and is renewable each year in February. This permits them to train, grade, compete and participate at other karate events. An affiliation sticker is issued by SA JKA each year of membership. The affiliation sticker is placed in the students Lifebook. This is inspected at all tournaments and gradings etc. and at their Black Belt grading one day, when they will check that the member has affiliated each year.
Affiliations are payable on joining and are renewable annually at the beginning of each year. Affiliations are an annual fee paid to the various bodies (such as SAJKA and Karate Syndicate) to which the dojo may belong during that year, and should not be confused with Dojo monthly fees.
Students are required to have a SA JKA Lifebook. This is a small book much like a passport. All gradings, seminars, camps, qualifications etc are recorded in this book - it is essentially a history of the students karate career. This book is kept by the dojo head for administration purposes. It is recognised Nationally and Internationally so the student would not have to start again should they move to another dojo. It is a once off purchase. (See point 5 below)
The Lifebook is the property of the karateka but will remain in the possession of the Dojo Head to make administration easier and more streamlined. Upon termination of membership, the Lifebook will be returned to the member once all outstanding fees, including the required notice period, have been paid in full.
New students must provide an ID size photograph and the indemnity at the bottom of this page must be checked as read accepted.
Karateka must have a dojo badge on their karate suit on the left breast. They must also have their name clearly marked on the front lapel (one letter below the other, not sideways). A gi badges is included in your joining fee.
Karateka must have their own mitts. Only SAJKA approved mitts are permitted and these are used at all tournaments. They may be purchased from the dojo head.
No spectators are allowed in the dojo during lessons or at gradings.
Children must be supervised at all times while waiting outside the dojo for classes to begin or waiting to be collected.
The property and its neighbours must be respected at all times.
Chewing gum is strictly prohibited and must be disposed of appropriately before arriving at the dojo.
The parent/guardian undertakes to clearly inform children to refrain from potentially dangerous activities, eg. climbing walls, touching electric fencing, banging on windows, throwing stones etc.
Karateka must have clean feet when entering the dojo.
Jewellery of any type is prohibited. This includes religious, spiritual or traditional jewellery and body adornments. If such jewellery cannot be removed, then it must be covered with electrical or medical tape or something similar which is suitable to cover it to prevent the risk of injury to either the person wearing it or any other member during the course of training.
Parking in and around the property is at your own risk. Please give consideration to others who will require parking and do not utilise more space than necessary.
Please drive slowly when arriving and departing. At the Alberton JKA Dojo please enter and/or leave through the double gate. The small gate may ONLY be used for exiting. Please do not block the egress.
When dropping karateka, parents/guardians are requested to drop them off and leave as quickly as possible to avoid traffic congestion. When collecting, parents/guardians are requested to be on time and to depart as quickly as possible to avoid traffic congestion with the next class arriving.
Children may not enter the dojo before a lesson without the instructors permission.
There will be no lessons on public holidays.
Karateka who do not behave appropriately may be asked to leave the class, or in severe cases, their membership may be terminated.
Please ensure that you familiarise yourself with the minimum training requirements (as is relevant to the students belt level) for grading purposes.
Please consult the Dojo Year Planner which is on the website when planning holidays and events. Certain events are compulsory to meet grading requirements. We respectfully request that you do not plan other events/holidays for the same days.
It is mandatory for all students to attend the Karate Syndicate Championship each year.
