Kia ora! So, you're thinking of submitting a CFP response, are you? That's O for Awesome!
.....so we're not sure how long you've had this tab open, but just to remind you: the 'con is on Friday the 30th and Saturday the 31st of October, and this CFP closes at midnight New Zealand time on Friday, August the 7th...
So we need talks! - for the Michael Fowler Centre's main stage. It can be anything fun, infosec-ish and interesting in the usual 45-min, 30-min, and lightning 15-min slots. Like we said before, what we look for in a talk is very hard to define but we know it when we see it - and we won't be able to see yours if you don't submit.
Generally speaking, we want to see submissions from everyone. So if you're new, good! If you're not new - well, we guess you know what you're doing, so just submit? We might ask for links to your past talks, so be prepared! It can be daunting to sub a talk to Kawaiicon, and if you are wibbling about whether to really submit then: it do! submit it! We have a few volunteers we can match you with to help you do a great job of developing your ideas into a rock solid and rockin' presentation.
More things we would like; we're putting a bigger emphasis on making hallway 'con and livestream 'con part of the 'con experience, even if it's not as traditional as presenting in the main auditorium. What this is going to end up like anyone's guess, but we want to offset a bit of the FOMO from people who weren't able to attend the conference itself for corporate or visa reasons, or who benefit from a more interactive and hands-on learning environment.
So if you see something missing to the con, or something else we could be doing, fill your idea out here and we just might throw money at that problem to make it happen. Keep in mind: we would need you to run with the idea. We are already pretty busy with running the con, so this is like signing up to help contribute. For those unfamiliar with Michael Fowler Centre, we do get a lot of space (but not, apparently, a venue map that we could find so we can't show you).
Note: we are a not for profit, and are generally pretty broke outside venue and AV. We can't pay for everyone's travel and accommodation, but we will try to have some sponsorship cash free, and will do our best to get you here if you need help. We do need speakers to be at the con in their physical flesh form, so we are not taking astroprojections or virtual speakers this time. There are some other neat things that come along with being a speaker, like:
- green room access (snacks, privacy, blankets, enrichment activities)
- free merch!
- getting to ask for pyro cues!
- letters to your mum (or whoever) telling them they should be proud of you!
- other stuff we probably haven't thought of yet!
Have you really read this far? Submit already! Stop us from using so many exclamation marks!
