Interactive training is required for all farmers, farmers market managers, their employees and agents. Training must occur prior to any e-SFMNP transactions for the agreement period. After an Authorized SFMNP Partner’s first year of SFMNP operation, interactive training is not required annually, but welcomed and encouraged. However, all Authorized SFMNP Partners must receive and read the Manual annually.
Federal law requires, at minimum, each annual training shall include instruction on the following topics:
- Eligible food choices;
Proper e-SFMNP benefit redemption procedures;
Equitable treatment of SFMNP Benefit Recipients and proxies, including the availability of eligible foods that are of the same quality and cost as sold to other customers;
All procedures related to benefit redemption technology;
Civil rights compliance and guidelines.
Training requirements are subject to change at any time and will be communicated with the release of agreements each year.
Once your application is approved:
- an account will be created for you in Homegrown Benefits
- you will receive an email message confirming your training request along with details such as location for in-person sessions or the Zoom link for online sessions
- you will have about 10 - 15 minutes of pre-work to do before training

Due to the nature of changes in 2024 SFMNP operations, the Network may require additional training in 2025. While it is our intent to address technical and operational issues quickly and throughout the season as they happen, as with all new systems and technology, we don’t know what we don’t know.
