End UCSF collaboration with anti-LGBTQ hospitals that restrict reproductive healthcare
We are writing to UCSF leadership to express concern about UCSF's collaborations with Dignity Health/Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI). Most Dignity/CHI hospitals are required to follow the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' Ethical and Religious Directives.
These Dignity/CHI hospitals do not permit the use of contraception, in vitro fertilization (IVF), sperm or egg donors, surrogate pregnancies, or abortion.
These policies severely restrict reproductive healthcare and eliminate the ability of LGBTQ people to conceive a biologic child. Catholic healthcare facilities also interpret the Religious Directives to prohibit the delivery of gender affirming services (such as hormone treatment, hysterectomy, and mastectomy) to transgender people.
We believe these anti-LGBTQ and anti-reproductive health policies directly conflict with UCSF's core values to provide high quality, evidence-based care in an environment free of bias and discrimination.
