Viet Writers Lab 2023 RSVP - Quentin Nguyen-duy
For the past six months, we’ve had the immense privilege of nurturing a new play from an immensely talented playwright named Quentin Nguyen-duy. We invite you to join us in the first public presentation of a collection of short plays: STUCK.

Stuck: a night in celebration of creative stuck-ness.  Three miniature plays featuring a talented ensemble of Viet American actors.  Threading the three vignettes together is the common theme of what it means to be stuck with others, in one’s own life path, or with one’s self, and the ways in which we may continue to move freely.

“Boy in Front of Burning Building”

Two identical twins reunite for their Dead Dad’s art opening in Chelsea.  When they both mistakenly believe they are the the faceless boy in their Father’s famous photograph “Boy in Front of Burning Building,” all chaos ensues, and the family’s history rears its medusa-ugly head

“Love by the Hour”

Bi and Thuy meet multiple times throughout their life, seeking refuge in each other, and within the walls of a rent-by-the-hour hotel room in Saigon, Vietnam.  Tracking their relationship from 1985 until 2023, this non-chronologically ordered play tracks the identity of a couple and a country as they endure significant changes.

“Blessed in the Eyes’a God”

In a hospital room in an unnamed town in the South, a boy comes to ask his girlfriend’s comatose father’s blessing before proposing to his daughter.  When it turns out his soon-to-be Father-in-law’s coma is not what it seems, a one-pot meal of family secrets is served scaldingly hot.

STUCK is directed by Sarah Shin, stage managed by Caren Celine Morris, dramaturgy by Otis Ramsey-Zöe, with a cast featuring Lynn Kim Đỗ, Amy Hart Nguyễn, Trieu Tran, and Jupiter Lê.

Presentation: Saturday, August 26th at 3:30 PM EST at Mai House Studio (99 Canal St, 4th floor).
