P.S. 101Q’s Safety Pledge

As a DRIVER:

• I will watch out for and yield for pedestrians.

• I will obey the crossing guard.

• I will obey all traffic signs.

• I will obey the speed limit ( 15mph) and lower my speed if the conditions require it.

• I will park legally; I will not double-park or drive on curbs or sidewalks.

• I will not drive through or park in the alley by the schoolyard.

• I will not drive aggressively.

• I will NOT text and drive or be distracted by my phone or other gadgets.

Asa WALKER:

• I will stop and look both ways before crossing the street.

• I will cross the street only at marked crosswalks and intersections.

• I will obey all “walk” and “don’t walk” signals.

• I will make eye contact with drivers to confirm they see me before crossing the

street.

• I will use caution while walking through driveways and garages.

• I will NOT text and walk or be distracted by my phone or other gadgets.

As a CYCLIST:

• I will always wear a helmet.

• I will always cross the street at intersections.

• I will use the designated bike paths when available.

• I will NOT text and ride or be distracted by my phone or other gadgets.

• I will always ride in the same direction as vehicle traffic, not against it.

As a SCOOTER RIDER:

• I will always wear a helmet.

• I will obey all rules of the road, including traffic signs and signals.

• I will NOT text and ride.

• I will yield to pedestrians and be prepared to stop.

• I will keep my eyes up and one ear free so I can see and hear what’s happening

around me.

• I will always ride in the same direction as vehicle traffic, not against it.

I will set a good example and remember that children learn from my behavior.
