UICUF Quick Workload Survey
The following is a confidential survey by your union, UIC United Faculty, on how the pandemic, and the shift to remote work, has effected faculty workloads. Answer as many questions as you wish, baring in mind that your responses will help us improve our advocacy around pandemic conditions affecting faculty.
The UIC United Faculty contract requires all academic units to develop written workload policies. Email us at
with any questions or follow ups regarding your academic unit's workload policies.
Please estimate, on average, how many more/fewer hours per week you've worked since shifting to remote work:
My workload INCREASED by 5 or more hours/week
My workload INCREASED by 1-4 hours/week
My workload is the same
My workload DECREASED by 1-4 hours/week
My workload DECREASED by 5 or more hours/week
Have you experienced any of the following changes, regardless of whether they have altered your hours of work? Check all that apply:
The size of my classes (# of students) has increased
The number of classes I teach has increased
I am required by my supervisor(s) to record my classes
I am required by my supervisor(s) to provide synchronous classes
I am required by my supervisor(s) to provide asynchronous classes
None of the above
Our union contract requires academic units to develop written workload policies through shared governance. Does your academic unit have a written workload policy?
In which academic unit (department/division/school) do you have your primary appointment?
Is there anything else you would like to share with the union about changing workloads/responsibilities?
