Webinar: Insight on Upcycling Yard Waste in HK
Section 1 (Introduction of Y.PARK):
Y‧PARK is expected to commence operation in the second quarter of 2021. It will receive and handle yard waste from both government departments and the private sector. Y‧PARK's scope of services will include screening, sorting and processing of yard waste (e.g. tree trunks & branches) collected to produce different useful materials, such as compost and mulch for gardening and planting, a bulking agent for composting, and substrate for mushroom cultivation. Large tree trunks and branches will be processed to produce wood boards or beams, providing a steady supply of wood materials to support related industries, such as furniture manufacturing, decoration, and wood art, etc.

Section 2 (ReCYCLE, ReDESIGN, ReLINK):
In 2018 Typhoon Manghut alone destroyed more than 30,000 tonnes of trees in Hong Kong which went into landfill. While feeling painful as it is, it was contradicting to find that Hong Kong imported tonnes of timber boards and furniture from other countries for construction and interior use every year, while killing and dumping our own trees to landfill, 200 tonnes per day to count. Ricci Wong, Founder of HK Timberbank, will share the idea to save the local timbers felled due to weather or development, and his secret recipe to recreate and reroute the path of these natural resources brought back the spirit and memory of Hong Kongers.
Speakers:
1) Klaus Chan (Assistant Environmental Protection Officer, Environmental Protection Department)
2) Ricci Wong (Founder of HK Timberbank and RAAW Limited, has more than 10 years working experience in architecture and art projects. He was awarded with numerous prizes including “2019 Perspective 40 under 40 Awards”, “2019 HKDA GDA Spatial Award Excellence”, “2018 International A‘ Design Award Gold”)
