Date: June 27 10:00-17:00

At: ArtEra Gallery, Lecture Hall OWR 40, Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, NL

Supported by Creative Industries Fonds NL and ArtEra

Are you a interested in methods listening for care infrastructure. Sound engineer? Sound artist? Sociologist? Student? Doctor? Nurse? Cleaner? Engineer? Administrator? Patient? or visitor interested in sound and listening? Then this is for you!

This is an invitation to slow down, listen differently, and reshape how we think about care. We will create a space for the community of Erasmus MC, for example doctors, nurses, patients, visitors, cleaners, maintainers, designers, and students, to co-create together.

Over one day we’ll gather inside and around Erasmus MC to experiment with sound—not as background noise, but as something that shapes how we feel, move, and connect in spaces of care. Together with sound artist Colette Aliman and composer and researcher Miguelángel Clerc Parada, we’ll guide a small group through a set of embodied listening practices—listening walks, field recordings, intuitive sound editing—and create sonic compositions from what we notice, feel, and record. Participants will leave with an understanding of how listening and care are intertwined in our bodies and sound editing skills.

Part A 10:00-13:00

The first half of the workshop day is about experience. We’ll move through space listening with and through each other—paying attention to what calls us, what’s usually ignored, and how care and communication plays out in sound. There'll be exercises for movement, time for recording, reflection, and ultimately a chance to step outside of patient/staff/visitor roles and into shared ground.

Part B 14:00-17:00

On the second half of the workshop day, we’ll use a simple iPad interface to play with and shape the sounds we’ve gathered—building collective soundscapes that imagine other ways these spaces could sound and feel. These co-created compositions will be transformed into short animated pieces and shown in the exhibition Small Gestures, Big System inside Erasmus MC.

You don’t need to be a musician or have any technical experience—just come with your ears, your presence, and a bit of curiosity.

Complimentary snacks and coffee are included.

We suggest that you partake for the full day but choosing either attending Part A or B is an option!

Bring your own lunch.
