Given the global extinction crisis and the climate emergency, prioritizing nature in the U.S. has never been more urgent. Our well-being and local wildlife depend on native species and open spaces. Healthy, functioning ecosystems are essential to the air we breathe and food we eat.
Yet access to green and blue spaces is not the same for all Americans; people of color and low-income communities have long been underserved. Decisions about conservation, investment, and stewardship continue to be inequitable.
Despite Americans' deep concern for protecting forests and saving habitats, policy has lagged behind. The U.S. is the only country not part of the global "Paris Accord for Nature" treaty. Thankfully, the Biden-Harris administration has made significant strides, including the ambitious goal of conserving 30% of U.S. lands and waters by 2030.
We have less than six years to meet these targets. U.S. leadership will be crucial for the future of our planet.
As advocates for nature conservation and equity, we're forming a coalition to support the Harris-Walz ticket. Saving species and open spaces transcends partisan divides. Our goal is to build widespread support and elevate biodiversity to a national priority.
