2024 Cahoots Session Proposal
Cahoots will be at Pearce Williams Christian Camp (Fingal ON) from May 23-26, 2024. Sessions take place on Friday 24 and Saturday 25. We accept proposals until Jan 20, 2024, with the Core Organizing Group making decisions by the end of January.

Workshop sessions are the core of Cahoots, bringing together ideas and skills to engage Christian faith, justice and equity, interfaith and solidarity, anti-oppression, the social gospel, practical do-it-yourself skills, artistic expression, political analysis, and everything in between!

The questions on this proposal form are to prompt your thinking, and help the Core Organizing Group craft the overall program. Give as much detail as you can, including areas of uncertainty.

If you have multiple session ideas, please make a separate proposal for each one, indicating if you have a strong preference. You will likely be asked to lead only one session.

If your proposal is selected, you will be assigned a member of the Core Organizing Group as a liaison. They are available to discuss with you the content and flow, troubleshoot to strengthen the session, and make it as meaningful and generative as possible.

Cahoots is a volunteer-led space. If you are leading a session, that fulfils your volunteer commitment! Others volunteer in the kitchen, in coordination roles, or caring for children. We ask everyone to be alert for other opportunities to help make Cahoots a cooperative, safe and mutually-supported space.

If you have any questions please email us at cahoots@scmcanada.org. Thank you so much!

1) The Facilitator
"Who is this presenter, and why have they chosen to share this skill/topic?"
Name (s) *
City, Province *
How did you encounter Cahoots, and what are you hoping to get out of participating? *
Time, Money, Labour *
At Cahoots, we try to minimize the line between presenter and participant. "Everyone volunteers, and everyone buys a ticket" - but we also aim at economic justice given precarious work realities. Pay-what-you-can tickets are available to everyone, and volunteering could be leading a workshop, doing the cooking, or caring for kids - we trust you to know what is possible for you.
Yes
No
I plan to stay for the festival (one or more nights)
I am able to purchase a ticket
I would like my session to count as my volunteer commitment
I request an honourarium for me or my organization
Will you work with another facilitator? *
Facilitator Bio(s) *
Please provide a 1 paragraph bio for each facilitator. Consider sharing briefly about relevant experiences, your passions, how you relate to principles of Cahoots. Bios will be published online as part of our promotion for the festival. If you have any concerns about that, make a note below.
Facilitator Picture *
We ask all facilitators to share a picture for our promotional materials, either of you or something to represent your session. Ask a friend to take a well-lit picture of you against a neutral background (no selfies please) - minimum file size: 1200x1200 pixels or 1MB. Send it to cahoots@scmcanada.org as part of your proposal
Your identifiers
An important intention for Cahoots is to create space for the gifts and perspectives of those who have faced barriers based on racism, sexism, homophobia/biphobia, transphobia, ableism, or any other forms of oppression. If you are willing to share information about your 'identifiers' - ethnicity, language, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, etc, please share here.
2) The Proposal
"What are we going to learn how to do?"
Session Format *
We have a mix of talks, discussions, and practical workshop to engage all festival-goers. Select all that apply!
Required
Session Title *
Aim for a short, engaging title focused on the topic. Descriptive and engaging is better than a clever pun that does not tell people what they will learn!
What will participants learn?
*
A sentence or paragraph.
What has the potential to surprise, intrigue, or delight?
*
A list of words, sentence, or paragraph.
What should a participant bring to your session, or what should they leave behind?
*
Mindset, ideas, questions, clothes, materials, preparations...
Duration *
By default, a session lasts 1.5 hours (90 minutes). Significant topics may require two parts - consider if participation in both parts is required, and whether the sessions can be different days.
Required
3) The Participants
"What does someone need to be able to take part in this session?"
Age Range - who would benefit? *
Most session participants will be adults, but please consider if your session could have either an All Ages rating or a 12+ rating (feel free to suggest another rating). How could your session be welcoming to a parent with a squirmy, nursing, or sleeping little one?
Required
Invisible assumptions
*
Take a moment to think about the assumptions you might be making in the design of this session. For example, does part of your session require a certain type of mobility, or risk an experience of re-traumatization? Our commitment is to make the festival as accessible as possible, to provide good information so that attendees can make informed decisions about their participation.
Participant Numbers *
What size are you preparing your session for? Could your session be adapted for different group sizes? Cahoots does not have formal signup, so we want facilitators to be ready for a variety of participant numbers.
Required
4) The Logistics
"What do the organizers need to know?"
Materials/Technology Needed
Audio-visual equipment is limited, but we can usually accommodate. If you are not sure, let us know.
Scheduling
We schedule sessions on Friday and Saturday. If you believe you will not be available at a particular time, please let us know, otherwise you will be assigned a time.
Any last comments, questions, etc?
Thanks so much for proposing a workshop!
We look forward to reading it!
Don't forget to send in a good quality picture to cahoots@scmcanada.org. No application is complete without one.
