Mission Statement
The Fierce Families Network supports the work of Basic Rights Oregon to advocate and achieve policy victories that ensure transgender Oregonians experience legal equality; seeks to achieve lived equality for transgender Oregonians through community education and engagement; and provides mutual support and resources for families of transgender Oregonians both within and outside the network.
Our History
The Fierce Families of Transgender Oregonians Network came to exist following the 2016 Presidential Election as family members of transgender Oregonians reached out to Basic Rights in search of ways to be involved and take action on behalf of their loved ones.

Initially, a small group of dedicated parents joined BRO in speaking at press conferences and rallies, raising money to support the work of the organization, and attending volunteer actions, including lobbying legislators to help pass Oregon's first standalone transgender justice bill.

As the network has grown to include families all over the state, we have welcomed siblings, partners, grandparents, aunts, uncles, chosen family and more. As our network has expanded, so has our scope and structure. We are in the midst of establishing a standing Leadership Committee and initiating a number of new projects, including:

• Connecting with school districts to ensure that transgender youth are safe in our school systems.
• Hosting story-sharing and informational/community education events.
• Connecting with parents and families of newly-out trans folks to offer peer support.

We are excited to welcome you into the Fierce Families Network. Thank you for supporting and advocating for your loved one!
