WCMS Project Unify
Sponsor: Julie Collins
Co-Sponsor: Summer O'Kelly

Project Unify is an education-based organization that activates young people in an effort to promote school communities where all young people are agents of change--fostering respect, dignity, and advocacy for people with intellectual disabilities. Project Unify is dedicated to forming friendships between ALL students. Our inclusive club will introduce students to other students with different abilities and help students become advocates/youth leaders in the community. Our ultimate goal is to create an atmosphere of acceptance and respect at WCMS. Project Unify provides opportunities for young people of all abilities to be leaders in our school by promoting equality and acceptance. These leadership activities help students with and without intellectual disabilities find their voices by teaching them to become change agents striving for respect and inclusion. Our students are creating an educational environment where respect and acceptance are the norm and all students feel included and engaged.

Students and educators work together to improve school climate and promote acceptance for all. Through activities such as the R-word campaign, fans in the stands, and Special Olympics partnering, student leaders develop the skills to advocate for individuals with intellectual disabilities. This club promotes youth leadership, school and community collaboration, and creating and sustaining relationships. Project Unify will utilize “Get Into It” service learning lessons that are designed to advance student’s civic knowledge and skill development, promote acceptance and understanding of people’s differences, and motivate students to become advocates for and together with all people. Project Unify is an opportunity to build positive social relationships and enhance leadership skills. Join the Project Unify movement and become a positive agent of change at WCMS!
