Mass Intention Request
OFFERING Mass is a genuine exercise of the common priesthood of the faithful and a tangible sign of our communion with one another. It has been a practice in our Parish to include Mass intentions, especially the names of the dead, in our Parish Bulletin.
However, those who request a Mass Intention must understand what happens when a priest, or his representative, accepts an offering to have a Mass said for a specific person or intention:
1. The person who has offered the monetary donations HAS NOT "BOUGHT A MASS," a thing which is patently impossible.
2. What has happened is that the priest has committed himself to celebrating a Mass according to the intentions of the person making the offering. This intention is most often to recommend the soul of a deceased person but may also be for the personal intentions of the living.
3. In some cases the commitment is to ensure that the Mass is celebrated within a year, but frequently also involves other conditions such as a specific time or place for the Mass, especially to coincide with an anniversary of death or when the person requesting the Mass has great interest in personally participating in the celebration.
The Parish recommends an offering of $20.00 for every Mass Intention. All Mass Intention Requests must be submitted to the Parish either by phone, email or via this online form NOT LATER THAN 12 NOON THURSDAY. Thank you.
