Open Call for Presentations #OpenBelgium20
Open Belgium is a yearly community-driven conference on Open Knowledge and Open Data in Belgium. We aim to gather all community members, researchers, industry influencers and government officials to discuss a multitude of open efforts in Belgium (and beyond).

We aim to bring you up to speed with the latest trends, innovations and best practices by sharing experiences among this wide range of participants. Get inspired by high-level keynote speakers, engaging panel discussions, hands-on and minds-on workshops as well as the interactive exhibition space where partners present innovative products, services and research.

Since the event is community-driven, you can influence the conference program. How? By responding to the open call for proposals, which is published on our website until January 10. A selection committee will then decide on the tracks and lineup.

Your proposal didn't get selected? No worries, we will provide an open space for lightening talks to give everyone the chance to share their ideas.

Open Belgium 2020 ( will take place on the 6th of March at the Old Prison, Campus Hasselt in Hasselt.

General submission guidelines
- Proposals and presentation must be in English.
- 'Open' should be a key element in your story.
- Sales / Marketing proposals will not be accepted.
- Generally, Open Knowledge Belgium does not pay per diem, honoraria or expenses.
- No fees are required to submit a proposal.
- Speakers will get a free ticket to the conference.
- Proposals will be rejected if all steps of the proposal submission process are not completed.
- Multiple session proposals are possible, you can edit your submission(s) even after submitting, as long as it is within the submission period.
- Session material (presentations, video recordings) are to be made available to the public under an open license after the conference.
Submission period
We will accept session proposals between the 19th of November 2019 and the 3th of January 2020 at 22:00 (GMT+1, 10:00PM). All submissions will be reviewed in the week of the 6th of January 2020. We will release the list of accepted talks and the program at the end of January 2020.

This is about what we need to provide to make your session a success. For example if you will bring your own computer, you should not tick the box that you need an extra computer. Please only tick what you need, we do not want to hire or purchase materials that will not be used. Beamers are provided in all rooms, Audio is available in the plenary auditorium. The whole building is provided with free WiFi.
How many speakers/panelists/mentors will be present during the session? *
Keynote sessions are usually performed by one speaker. Panels, break-out sessions and active events can host up to 4 contributors, including the lead organiser. Inviting more members is only available upon request, so that we can ensure that we have enough available speaker tickets. If you want to invite more speakers, please provide an explanation in the 'other' section.
Please provide a speaker profile for each speaker or contributor *
For each speaker or mentor you should provide at least a name, a function relevant to the talk, the Social media links to their personal or professional profiles and a short biography. For plenary sessions the biography can go up to 500 characters excl. spaces, for break-out session we limit the bio to 140 characters. Please respects these limits.
