Stand In Support of Bear's Den Workers and Call for the Punishment of the Involved Parties

We, the student body of the Association of Black Students demand that WashU hold individuals of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and Alpha Phi International Women's Sorority accountable for their actions, which perpetuated anti-Blackness, during the "egging incident" of Thursday, March 21st. Please read the text below and sign in support of our cause:

On Thursday, March 21, 2024, members of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and Alpha Phi International Women's Sorority were allegedly involved in an “egg hunt,” in the Bears Den, which resulted in participants throwing eggs at dining workers, obnoxiously dancing on tables, making loud noises, and even using racial slurs. The WashU chapters of these organizations have been temporarily suspended, while the university conducts its on-going investigation. ABS not only urges the Student Conduct Team to hold all individuals accountable to the fullest extent, but asks that these chapters be terminated from Washington University's campus and that all individuals involved in the disturbance be expelled from the institution.

We believe that what occurred on March 21st was not just an isolated disturbance, but a hate crime, and one which was perpetuated with a denial of the dignity of BD workers. This is not the first time an incident such as this has happened, with one similar to this happening just over ten years ago. The repeated offense shows us that not enough was done the first time, to combat WashU's culture of anti-Blackness and the organizations that promote it. Thus, this time, we demand a stronger response.
