Iowa Public Television Environmental Science Project
IPTV’s newest production, Iowa Land and Sky, will create innovative media products and engagement experiences that will provide grades 6-12 classrooms and general audiences with opportunities to explore the state’s landforms and environments as well as research environmental issues that concern our state. Project resources are scheduled for release starting in fall 2018.

Project Overview

This project will feature diverse areas of Iowa, such as the Loess Hills and Missouri River Valley; the Des Moines lobe and prairie pothole region; Northeast Iowa’s karst topography; and the Mississippi River Valley.

Educational topics considered for Iowa Land and Sky include:
-Water and geological forces that shape Iowa’s landscapes
-Characteristics of Iowa’s natural environments, and their dynamics, function and resilience
-Ways in which Iowans depend on the land for many limited or non-renewable resources
-Factors of global climate change that impact Iowa landscapes and communities
-Interdependent relationships of organisms and populations in Iowa ecosystems
-Human impacts on Iowa’s natural systems, such as causes and effects of water quality
