Hello from the Blue Ridge Audubon Chapter!
Thank you so much for your interest in contributing your time and talents to our organization. We are entirely volunteer-driven and we appreciate your help.
Depending on your skills and interests, we have several committees that may be able to use your assistance. Here’s a brief overview of a few of our committees:
Advocacy, Conservation and Education (ACE):
Members work on all sorts of different projects: staffing tables at public outreach events, environmental advocacy, promoting shade-grown coffee, leading free bird outings to adults and children, working with children on bird activities/crafts, doing presentations to community groups and schools on many topics (bird-friendly gardening, the impacts of climate change on birds, etc). ACE also works on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion initiatives and is striving to bring the joy of birding to a broader community.
Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary (BLBS):
Our chapter owns and maintains the 8-acre Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary on Merrimon Avenue in Asheville. The BLBS Committee hosts regular workdays that involve everything from removing invasive plants, to putting up signs, bird houses and repairing the boardwalk.
Publicity and Publications (P&P):
We produce monthly chapter newsletter 10 times a year, create flyers, membership brochures and other publicity and educational handouts. We are always looking for submissions of bird-related articles for our newsletter and someone with design and/or technical experience.
