If your organization is concerned about anti-LGBTQ legislation in Tennessee and would like to sign a public statement for dignity and freedom, please fill out this form and Tennessee Equality Project will add your name. The statement will only include the names of organizations, businesses, congregations, etc. and will NOT include the name of the individual who authorizes the inclusion of your organization. We will contact you about other options to engage during the legislative session. If you represent a business, we additionally recommend you consider membership in the Tennessee Pride Chamber and the Mid-South LGBT Chamber. The statement will reside and be updated at TNEP.org . It may be used in discussion with the news media. Here is the statement:
The fundamental dignity of every person is the cornerstone of good public policy. Wisdom leads us to respect the diversity of our neighbors and to a shared prosperity for all. Words and laws that divide us have no place as Tennessee looks to the future. We need the strengths of everyone.
Bills that limit life-saving healthcare for transgender and nonbinary people, create obstacles for LGBTQ students and faculty, discriminate in adoption and foster care, and challenge marriage equality do lasting harm.
As organizations committed to the path of mutual respect and the goal of everyone’s dignity, we call on the Tennessee General Assembly to abandon discriminatory proposals.
