Pass SB 544 and let communities penalize nuclear waste

In the years since the Zion Nuclear Power Station closed, the surrounding community has been harmed by its status as a de facto waste storage facility for spent nuclear fuel. Until the situation changes, valuable lakefront property must remain undeveloped.

Senate Bill 544, sponsored by State Senator Melinda Bush, would grant cities like Zion the ability to impose fees on companies for storing nuclear waste in communities.

Please sign this petition to urge the Illinois House to pass Senate Bill 544, and for Governor Bruce Rauner to sign it into law.
