Thank you for your interest in Peaksview Christian Home Educators (PCHE)! PCHE is an academically based homeschool co-op that offers educational classes and electives on Wednesdays, along with social events throughout the school year. These events include Mom Nights Out, field trips, and service projects, all designed to build community among our members. Our ministry exists to encourage and support homeschooling mothers as they follow the Lord’s call to educate their children at home.
We offer tours for interested families from 12:45 p.m.–2:15 p.m. on Wednesdays in February (2/4 (full), 2/25 (full)) and March (3/4 (full), 3/11). We have added an April date (4/15) Please complete the form below to sign up for the tour date that works best for your family.
A Little About the PCHE Directors
Our directors—Jody, Amanda, and Sarah—are excited for the upcoming co-op year! We function as a team, each using our unique gifts to come alongside PCHE families and create an environment where moms feel supported and children are learning and having fun.
A Little About PCHE
We meet at Thaxton Baptist Church (1067 Penicks Mill Rd, Thaxton, VA 24174) on Wednesdays from August through May. Each co-op day includes three one-hour classes, with a shared lunch and recreation time for all students. In addition, we offer optional, mom-led electives for one hour after co-op for four weeks in the fall and four to six weeks in the spring.
PCHE is a true cooperative in the sense that we have no paid employees which allows PCHE to keep rates at a bare minimum. You can expect to pay around $425 for the whole family to participate for the entire year. Moms are required to teach one class, assist in another, and serve in a support role (such as an outside activity or facility responsibility). Our preference is for new moms to have a year to observe before leading a class. While this is not always possible, we do our best to place new moms in classrooms where they feel comfortable. We are able to keep expenses low because everyone is required to participate.
During the remaining hour, moms are encouraged to relax in the Mom’s Room, which offers tea, coffee, and snacks. This space is designed for building relationships with other homeschooling moms. Homeschooling can be isolating without a supportive community, and PCHE strives to foster meaningful connections.
PCHE provides teaching materials for classes that moms lead. During elective periods, moms whose children are participating will serve in some capacity. If you opt out of electives, you are free to leave once the regular co-op day concludes.
Parents are responsible for purchasing any required textbooks and consumable materials. Co-op classes may assign weekly homework to be completed at home. Parents should plan to cover additional subjects—such as math and grammar—within their own homeschool. All classes for second grade and above include homework. Some first-grade classes may assign gentle, regular homework to ease students into expectations. Preschool through kindergarten classes are considered enrichment and may occasionally include fun, optional assignments. Classes are considered academic from second through twelfth grade.
How to Register
Registration is open April 1–July 15. If you are interested in joining PCHE for the 2025–2026 school year, registering earlier in the window helps greatly with planning and also offers a financial benefit.
To complete registration, all forms must be submitted online, and payment must be hand-delivered to co-op. At that time, Jody, Amanda, and Sarah will meet with your family for an informal interview. This meeting allows us to review the membership contract with parents and the behavior contract with children. We want your children to be just as excited about PCHE as you are!
Registration is dependent on space availability for your entire family. After forms are submitted and your family meeting is complete, the directors will confirm placement, add students to the roster, and assign moms to teaching or assisting roles.
