Eligibility requirements:
- Between 17 and 29 years old at start date of June 7
- Presently in a stable position with regards to mental wellness and/or substance misuse
- Open and respectful of different world views, ideas, lifestyles and people
***Pre-screening interviews may be conducted with potential participants in the weeks before program***

DESCRIPTION:
The Indigenous Youth Employment Program is a 16-week paid program for youth 17-29 who are looking to gain employment skills and on-the-job experience.

In addition to workshops that teach resume and cover letter writing, interview skills, and job searching, there will be a strong Indigenous cultural component, mentor speakers, guest facilitators, and life skills workshops such as techniques for learning time management skills, anxiety management skills, financial literacy, and more.

Participants will receive 1-1 support from Peer Mentor, Program Coordinator, and ongoing support from Employment Counselors.

NEXT CYCLE: June - September 24*
*with possibility of extension

Phase 1: Pre-Employment Training as Online Zoom workshops = June 7 - July 30 (every Mon/Tues/Wed) - $500 honorarium for completion
Phase 2: Paid Work Placement = Aug 3 - Sept 24 (up to 21 hours per week).

Funding provided by the Government of Canada through the Canada-British Columbia Workforce Development Agreement.

Additional details:
- get paid ($500 honorarium for finishing first phase; min. wage for work placement)

... We try to make it fun, too, with games and different learning methods! COVID-19 safety regulations in place for participants, and everyone involved (workshops are all online, and we are following strict guidelines for COVID).
