About the Ambassador Mentoring Program: The Ambassador Program is a student-run, peer-advisor program that provides support for interested freshman and transfer students at Tulane University. Ambassadors are upper-class mentors assigned to assist first-year students’ transition to college during the first eight weeks of school. The Program stimulates discussion of issues that affect people of all backgrounds, cultivates student leadership, builds a stronger, more diverse community, and encourages students to participate fully in the campus life. Our major goal is to increase the success and retention rates of first-year Tulane students. Ambassadors coordinate opportunities for students to become acclimated to the campus and New Orleans area, as well as to develop their personal, academic, social and cultural experiences through programming and guidance. The O Student Ambassadors also assist the office with the recruitment of prospective students and help to promote a diverse and culturally appreciative campus.
What is an OMA & OGSD Student Ambassador?
• A student volunteer who represents the O at a variety of campus events, meetings, and workshops.
• A mentor to a first-year student
• A student volunteer who may facilitate diversity workshops and presentations in the residence halls and various on and off campus groups.
• A student who encourages other students to take an active role in campus education around issues of multiculturalism, equity and social justice.
• A student volunteer who may assist with the recruitment of prospective students through tours, campus visits, and the Multicultural Preview Weekend

What are the requirements to serve as an OMA Student Ambassador?
Student Ambassadors must be:
• Currently enrolled student in good standing
• Must be in good standing with the university as it relates to student conduct
• Must be in good standing with the mentoring program, if a returning mentor
• One academic year commitment
• Outgoing and friendly
• Eager to learn and open minded
• Have a commitment to diversity, multiculturalism, and social justice
• Knowledgeable about Tulane resources, student services and programs
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Willing to mentor at least one (1) first-year student
• Attend training Tuesday, August 26, 2014 4:30pm-5:30pm
• If available attend the Ambassador Matching Ceremony Tuesday, August 26, 2013 5:30-7:00pm
• Must have a sincere concern for the well being of new students
• Must have the ability to communicate and work well with others
• Establish relationships with first-year students
• Encourage interactions among students
• Maintain high visibility on campus and with your little(s); be approachable and receptive
• Meet individually with each assigned little(s)
• Identify and respond to students needing extra assistance
• Connect students with campus resources
• Aid in the development of community standards and an environment inclusive of the diverse background of students
• Support University policies and procedures
• Maintain a positive attitude
What is the time commitment?
• Fall Training
• Minimum of 20 hours a semester, which include the items listed below
o Individual or group meetings with little(s)
o Attendance at the monthly Ambassador meetings September 9, October 7, & November 11th in LBC 212 5:30pm-6:30pm
o Attendance at Ambassador socials
o Attendance at The O programs
o Three, 1 hour for check-ins during the first 12 weeks
• Participate in Move-In Day and Welcome Weekend activities (not mandatory)
Summary of Requirements
-Mentor one First-year Tulane Student for the first 12 weeks of school
-Attend three meetings during the fall semester September 9, October 7, & November 11th in LBC 212 5:30pm-6:30pm
-Attend 1 training August 26, 2014 4:30pm LBC 203
