In 2018, the United Nations Secretary-General launched Youth2030, marking the establishment of the first-ever UN System-wide Youth Strategy. Since then, much progress has been made - the strategy has delivered, inter alia, score cards and mapping on how UN entities and UN country teams are better integrating youth programming in their work. More than 60 UN entities and 132 UN Country Teams are implementing Youth2030, contributing annually to the Youth2030: Progress Reports.
Earlier this year, Youth2030 – Phase 2 (2025–2030) was launched. The document is the product of the work of the Youth2030 Joint Working Group (JWG) since August 2024 and subsequently approved by the High-Level Steering Committee (HLSC) of the strategy in December 2024. It builds on the foundations established in the first phase (2018–2024) and aligns with the UN Youth Strategy’s Foundational and Priority Areas and sets actions to address gaps and tackle ongoing and emerging global challenges that may impact Youth2030's progress.
Youth networks continue to be part of the steering the work of the strategy - being part of the HLSC and JWG and co-leading the “Task Teams” that implement the strategy (each Task Team is led by a UN agency, Youth Constituency, and UN Youth Office as secretariat of the strategy). Additionally, more than 15 youth organisations representing different youth constituencies / engagement mechanisms in the UN participated at the discussions that helped shape the phase 2 of the strategy. Similarly, Youth2030 Focus Group convened by the Major Group for Children and Youth (MGCY) provides a universal and equitable space for youth and youth organisations globally to engage and provide feedback to the work of the youth constituency in the strategy.
As we enter into this new phase, we are focused on ensuring the current set of Youth2030 resources reflect new strategic priority and action areas to continue to drive the momentum in the implementation of the strategy. With this in backdrop, an online briefing session is being hosted for youth networks to learn more about the Phase-2 of the strategy and avenues of getting involved!
