Dear Friend, Team Member, Partner, Grantee, Supporter and all others,

As part of our 2025-2027 Strategic Plan, HumanitiesDC is creating our first Accessibility Plan. Being the humanities council for the city, we strive to be as welcoming and available as possible to all DC residents. In alignment with our values, and desire to build stronger connections to our communities, we will work to create a document that includes definitions and achievable actions, while considering our staff and financial capacity. Our hope is to design an approach in 2025 and put it into action between 2026 and 2027.

One of the first steps is to collect information directly from those engaged in our organization and programs. Please consider filling out this short, anonymous survey below, which should take 2 minutes to complete. If you have not engaged with HumanitiesDC before but received this invitation, please consider participating since we are also trying to collect input from those currently outside of our circle of activities. Auditory – Ex. Providing captions and/or ASL interpretation for those with partial or total inability to perceive and access sounds and other audio-based information.

Financial - Ex. Making resources available to support those who have financial obstacles that may otherwise limit participation in programming.

Geographic – Ex. Hosting events, workshops, etc. throughout the city.

Language – Ex. Translating organizational information and programming in languages common to Washington, DC in addition to English.

Mobility – Ex. Designing and choosing gathering spaces welcoming to those with limited use of extremities, and or may use a cane, walker, wheelchair, or other assistive device.

Neurological – Ex. Providing multiple avenues for how people can communicate and interact with us, as well as recorded webinars and reminders for deadlines and dates.

Visual - Ex. Creating print and web material for those with blindness, low vision, and color blindness.
