Artist Registration Form - Recycled Fashion Show at the Mississippi Earthtones Festival
CALL FOR ARTISTS: Professional and amateur designers are welcome to submit their work for a Recycled Fashion Show to be presented at the 12th Annual Mississippi Earthtones Festival on Sat, Sept 15th 2018. The show encourages artists to turn waste into fashion by creating unique garments out of discarded items such as: used newsprint, aluminum cans, plastic, decks of cards, VCR tape, candy wrappers, packaging, wire, etc.

ELIGIBILITY: Anyone can enter! Participants and models must arrive at the festival grounds by 11:30 to prepare and be briefed on the logistics of the runway show which starts at 12:30.

APPLICATION DETAILS: Participants may submit a maximum of three outfits or articles of clothing. At least 50% of the garment must be made of recycled, reused, or waste materials that would’ve otherwise ended up at a landfill or recycling facility. Artists are asked to make an effort to use upcycled materials for the remaining 50% instead of purchasing new items.

Designers must provide their own models. A description of supplies, materials and design/construction process must be submitted by Sept 9th, and will be read by the MC while the model walks the runway.

AWARD INFORMATION: A panel of jurors will determine a winner in the following categories: Fantasy/Costume, Trashiest, Classiest and 13 & under.

- Fantasy/Costume: Your wildest imagination! Not everyday wear!
- Trashiest: At least 90% of this entry must be completely recycled. This entry must be created from salvaged materials (i.e. not newly purchased commercial items but actual “used” items).
- Classiest: In this category your garment must be recycled but fashionable and wearable.
13 & under: In this category the award will be presented for “Best Use of Recycled Materials”.

FESTIVAL INFORMATION: The Mississippi Earthtones Festival, co-organized by Alton Main Street and the Sierra Club, is a celebration of our rivers through art, music, and conservation. The 12th annual event promises to attract thousands of people to Broadway, where the street will be closed to traffic from Noon to 10pm.
