Cornell Bowers Data Science Minor
MAY 2026 GRADUATES can apply to the minor no later than May 31, 2026 at 11:59 PM. Applications after this deadline will not be accepted.

The Data Science minor is open to all Cornell undergraduate students except information science minors with a Data Science concentration. 

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Build core, foundational skills and knowledge in statistical techniques and computer programming
  2. Implement these skills in disciplinary settings that align with their chosen areas of study
  3. Conduct data analysis and interpretation
  4. Effectively synthesize, present and communicate their results
  5. Understand the broader contexts and impact of big and complex data in scholarship and in our society
To Complete the Minor:

Please submit this form only after you have completed all of the following courses or once you are in your final semester of fulfilling these requirements.

Six courses are required in total for the minor:

1 COURSE from the Core Statistics Category
1 COURSE from the Core Computer Programming Category
4 COURSES from the following categories:
  • Data Analysis
  • Domain Expertise
  • Big Data Ethics, Policy and Society
  • Data Communication
At least one course should be from each of three different categories, while the fourth can come from any category.

Double Counting Instructions:
  • No more than two courses can be concurrently used to meet core requirements for a major, though they may be used to satisfy elective requirements.
  • Students who are majoring in a subject that requires an introductory programming course (such as CS 1110), must satisfy “Core Computing” with a more advanced programming course.
Students may use one course from a study abroad semester for minor requirements, if approved by the appropriate Cornell department for course equivalency.

All minor coursework must be taken for a letter grade. 
May/August 2026 Graduates: Students must earn a "C-" or above in minor coursework.
December 2026 (or later) Graduates: Students must earn a "C" or above in minor coursework.
