The 3D printer uses designs created in computer assisted design (CAD) software and creates a three dimensional object made out of plastic filament (PLA).
In order to submit 3D print requests, cardholders must first review and sign this agreement. If a cardholder is under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian will be responsible for signing this waiver granting access to the collection.
Cardholders may submit 3D print requests based on the following guidelines:
All printing is completed by library staff. Cardholders are not able to operate the 3D printer.
Library staff will not make adjustments to submitted files.
Prints are completed in the order they are received.
Prints must take less than six hours to complete.
The finished object must be smaller than 11.7” x 10.8” x 9.8”.
Prints cost printing is 10¢ per gram.
Payment is due at pickup.
You will not be charged for an incomplete print.
Staff will review the file and have the right to not print a file based on content. We will not print:
Objects prohibited by state or federal law
Harmful or dangerous objects (ie. blades, guns, other weapons)
Objects in violation of any copyright, patent, or trademark
Submitting a 3D print request
Option 1: email your .stl file to makery@westmontlibrary.org.
Option 2: bring your .stl file to the Library on a removable flash drive.
Flash drives will be returned with the final print.
Please include your name, library card number, and preferred contact method.
You may request any available PLA filament color for prints.
Library staff will contact you with a confirmation that your print request has been received, within three business days. They will provide an estimated print time and cost. Once you have confirmed the details, your file will be sent to the print queue. Prints will be held for confirmation for three days, after which they will be deleted.
Librarians are available to assist with 3D printing by placing a request in advance through the Makery reservation form.
