The mission of the Cornell Game Development Club (CGDC) at Cornell Tech is to unite students with a passion for game creation. Through game jams, game engine and art workshops, our members gain practical experience and insight into the game creation process, fostering creativity within a collaborative community. We want to ensure that all members, regardless of their level of experience or background, feel welcomed to contribute to and benefit from the club. We want to build a community of like-minded individuals who are passionate about making games! :)
Our Planned Events:
Game Jams: We organize game jams where members form teams to design and build a game from scratch within a set time limit. These events are great for connecting students and fostering creativity under pressure.
Game Engine Workshops: Based on club members' interests, we offer targeted workshops on leading game engines like Unreal Engine, Unity, or Godot. These workshops range from beginner to advanced levels, allowing members to progressively build their technical skills in areas such as animation, scripting, and engine-specific features.
Art Workshops: Our art workshops are led by artists who teach techniques in game-related art production. Topics can range from creating spritesheets for 2D games, pixel art techniques, environmental design for immersive worlds, to modeling and texturing 3D characters and landscapes, etc. These sessions aim to bridge the gap between artistic vision and game design execution.
Speaker Events: We plan to host guest speakers from the gaming industry, such as developers, designers, and specialists. These talks are designed to inspire and educate members about the latest trends and practices in game development.
