Introduction
In this survey we would like you to tell us what you think about physical activity, school sport and physical education
(PE). We want to know how important they are to you, your experience of participating in physical activity, school
sport and PE at school and the impact they have on you.
We want to understand the value you place on physical activity, school sport and PE in your school at the moment
and therefore ask that you answer the questions as honestly as possible.
Definitions of physical activity, PE and Sport
When we ask about physical activity, we are referring to bodily movements done in everyday life such as indoor and
outdoor play, work-related activity, outdoor and adventurous activities, active travel (e.g. walking, cycling,
rollerblading, scooting) and habitual activities such as using the stairs, doing housework and gardening.
When we ask about PE, we are referring to timetabled physical education lessons delivered as part of the school
curriculum.
When we ask about school sport, we are referring to structured sports offered at your school that take place beyond
the curriculum such as football, netball, tennis or dance .
