About the Program: FOUNDRYmade is a paid job training opportunity at The Foundry. We make community projects and products in our makerspaces! You will have the opportunity to learn your way around all kinds of different hands-on skills. Are you ready to learn career skills and get paid at the same time? Apply now!

Enrollment Requirements:
  • Must be able to learn new skills with instruction
  • Must be able to work with others
  • Must be consistent and communicative with Foundry staff
  • Must be over 18 and connected to one of our partner agencies (YouthBuild, Peaceprints, ECRJC or other Foundry programming)
Program Dates: FOUNDRYmade runs Monday through Thursday 3:45-6:45pm. Before starting, you will meet with a Youth Development Coach to discuss your career goals and they will work with you to determine the length of time you will participate in FOUNDRYmade. We expect a minimum of 6 weeks, but average participation is usually 12 weeks. Successful exit from program looks different for each individual, but includes part-time or full-time employment and/or entry into additional education and training opportunities.

Application Process: Once you submit an application, if there is space in the program, The Foundry staff will review your application. They will then schedule an informal interview to talk to you more about FOUNDRYmade and to see if it is a good fit. If it is and there is space, then Foundry staff will coordinate a time for you to come in for an orientation session. If not, Foundry staff will notify you via email.

FOUNDRYmade Participant Agreement

At The Foundry, we believe that a safe, supportive, and respectful environment is essential to the success of every community member. In order to create and maintain such an environment, we ask everyone participating in FOUNDRYmade projects to abide by the following guidelines:

  1. Respect yourself and others: We expect all participants to treat themselves and others with kindness, respect, and dignity. This includes refraining from using hurtful or derogatory language or behavior, observing safety protocols, and being considerate of others' feelings.

  2. Timeliness: Since this is a job training program, sessions are set up similar to real-life work. Participants are expected to arrive by the start time, and be prepared to participate for the duration of the scheduled session. If the participant must leave for any reason, such as prior appointments, sickness, or family/childcare difficulties, the participant is expected to inform The Foundry prior to the start of the session. If the participant leaves the shop for any extended period of time, they will be clocked out and have to clock back in when they return. Exceptions will be made for bathroom use or handling an emergency situation.

  3. Attendance: Participants are expected to attend every session they have signed up for. If there is a conflict, such as prior appointments, sickness, or family/childcare difficulties, the participant will inform The Foundry as soon as possible. After two no call/no shows, the participant will be temporarily suspended from all FOUNDRYmade sessions. Participants are able to sign up for new sessions following a meeting with their case manager and a member of The Foundry staff.

  4. Follow safety rules and policies: All participants must comply with safety rules and policies, including those related to proper clothing, safety gear, and proper machine operation. All participants must wear closed toe shoes, old clothing made preferably out of denim or cotton, as well as the provided eyewear, welding jackets, and gloves. Long hair must be tied back and long earrings, necklaces must be removed. Headphones, earbuds, and cell phone use are not permitted while in the shop. Vaping or smoking electronic cigarettes or hydes is not allowed in the shop. Being under the influence of drugs or alcohol will result in the immediate removal of the participant. Phone calls must be taken outside of the shop.

  5. Be responsible for your own project and workspace: Participants are responsible for their own participation and completion of projects. Participants will ask for clarification or instruction if they are not familiar with or are uncomfortable at their station. There is no eating in the shop due to the risk of contamination. Bottled beverages or containers with lids are permitted. Participants are expected to eat before arriving or may bring packaged snacks.

  6. Keep the workspace clean and safe: Participants are expected to keep the workshop environment clean and safe, including properly disposing of trash and reporting any safety concerns to Foundry staff. Tools should be stored in their proper location and stations should be cleaned up at the end of each shift.

By signing this agreement, I acknowledge that I have read and understand the expectations outlined above and agree to abide by them. I understand that failure to comply with these guidelines may result in not being able to participate in the program going forward.
