AmeriCorps Education Fellow Member Application
The Learning Community, a public charter school serving students from Central Falls, Pawtucket, and Providence, Rhode Island. We believe that literacy empowers each individual to have a voice, assume community responsibility and take social action.

The AmeriCorps Education Fellow Team Members commit to 11 months of service, providing academic supports in literacy or math to economically disadvantaged students from Providence, Pawtucket and Central Falls, Rhode Island. Members will be trained in various school curriculum that aligns to the needs of the students. AmeriCorps members will work with around 30 students throughout the year both during school and in after school skills groups.

Specifically, Members will meet with small groups of students and target their academic intervention to support the students' continued growth in either math or literacy. Members are expected to establish relationships with school staff, parents, and students in an effort to provide a more thorough support system for students.

$14,500 living stipend ($630 paid bi-weekly)
$6,092 Segal Education Award (upon completion of 1,700 hours of service)

Commit to 11 months of service: August 7, 2019 - June 26, 2020
Complete a minimum of 1700 hours of service
At least 18 years old
Adhere to a drug-free workplace policy
U.S. Citizen, U.S. National or Permanent Resident and able to provide documentation
Possess a high school diploma/ GED, or able to provide proof of plans to obtain
Undergo criminal history background check
Able to work a full-time, minimum 45 hours a week including some nights and weekends
Experience with youth and/or youth development
Strong leadership qualities, self-motivated, and independent working abilities
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Experience with computers and basic programs
Able to work independently and within a team
Access to reliable transportation
Attend weekly professional development training and reflections
Able to function in a professional setting
Preferred Skills and Experience
Experience in a classroom setting and/or group facilitation
College degree or some college experience
Experience tutoring students
Bilingual/Multilingual individuals strongly encouraged to apply
