2020 Sakura Days Japan Fair (SDJF) Volunteer Application Form
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
- Application deadline is MARCH 15, 2020
- You must be 16 years old or older to volunteer.
- You must commit to minimum one 6 hour shift on either Saturday APRIL 18 or Sunday APRIL 19 2020. Lunch and snacks will be provided (lunch is only for volunteers with more than 6 hour shift)
- All new volunteers MUST ATTEND the VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION on SUNDAY APRIL 5, from 2 pm to 4 pm at VanDusen Garden (repeat volunteers are optional).
- All volunteer meetings, communications, and activities on the day of the event will be in English.
- This application form DOES NOT GUARANTEE a volunteer position, your choice of shifts, or roles. The Volunteer Manager will contact all selected applicants by MARCH 22, 2020.
- Volunteer roles will be assigned one week before the Volunteer Orientation.
- Sakura Days Japan Fair does not provide accommodation or transportation to volunteers.
- The event is held mostly outdoors and will take place regardless of the weather.

Please describe any physical restrictions which may limit your ability to fully participate in any of the volunteer assignments.
Please note that some positions will require lifting or other physically demanding activities.
Please indicate your shift availability. Most volunteers will be needed on Sat. April 18 and Sun. April 19, but a few are needed leading up to the event and for Set Up on Friday April 17. You must commit to a minimum of one shift on either Sat. April 18 or Sun. April 19. *Actual shift times may start earlier or end later **All volunteers with Saturday and Sunday shifts get to enjoy the event for free before or after their shifts
Event Management Team Assistance for SDJF 2020 (January - April). There are various tasks and levels of commitment required. The Volunteer Manager will contact you as needs arise.
Friday April 17: 1pm to 5pm
Saturday April 18: 9am to 3pm * some shifts may start at 8am
Saturday April 18: 11am to 5pm
Saturday April 18: 2pm to 8pm *volunteers may enter event for free before shift starts
Sunday April 19: 9am to 3pm *some shifts may start at 8:30am
Sunday April 19: 11am to 5pm
Sunday April 19: 1pm to 7pm (includes tear down) *volunteers may enter event for free before shift starts
What is the MAXIMUM number of days you are able to volunteer?
For example, if you are available for the entire festival as well as set up, but only wish to volunteer for 1 day during the festival itself (Saturday or Sunday), check the box next to 1 day. Please note the minimum time committment is 1 day.

Stage/Performance Area (assist performers and stage managers; moderately heavy lifting may be required)
Cultural Experiences/Exhibits Area (assist visitors and performers in Experience Japan Tent and cultural display areas)
Children's Tent (lead children's activities such as crafts, games, origami)
Sake Tasting (ticket sales, line up management, and clean up) ** must be 19 yrs or older (please check box below)
Tea Ceremony (ticket sales, line up management, and clean up)
Yukata Dressing (must have Kitsuke training)
MC (must be able to speak English & Japanese)
Hospitality/Information (greet visitors, provide information on events and way finding)
Volunteer Administration (assist with volunteer check in and hospitality)
Set Up/Tear Down (moderately heavy lifting may be required)
Dancer for "Ondo parade" on Saturday evening (12pm to 6pm). Yukata will be provided to wear during shift. *must attend orientation for a group practice **must be 19 yrs or older (please check box below)

Volunteer Release of Liability and Waiver of Claim
I accept full responsibility for my participation in any and all Sakura Days Japan Fair events. I am aware that there are risks associated with Sakura Days Japan Fair events and that loss, damage, expense or injury may occur while participating in those events. By choosing to participate in Sakura Days Japan Fair events, I am accepting the risk that I may suffer loss, damage, expense or injury. I have read and understood this Agreement prior to signing it. I am aware that by signing it I, waive any and all claims that I may have against the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival, the Japan Fair Association of Vancouver, its directors, officers and volunteers and that I release Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival, Japan Fair Association of Vancouver, its directors, officers and volunteers from any and all liability for any loss, damage, expense or injury that I may suffer as a result of participation in any and all Sakura Days Japan Fair events.
