Our Costume Contest is a CREATIVITY/ORIGINALITY award show, with a catwalk display and judging process. Adults & Teens (13 and over) will be judged separately on Saturday from Kids (12 and under) on Sunday. Costumes should use the theme(s) of magic, science fiction and/or fantasy but it is not required.
Prizes will be awarded in each age group for:
Best Mashup - must combine a minimum of two fandoms or concepts to create a clearly identifiable mashup or crossover Kids: First Place $100, Second Place $50, Third Place $25
Best Duo or Group - must be a group of 2-6 people that coordinate together in their cosplay (families can choose between the two contest times but may only enter one)Kids: First Place $100, Second Place $50, Third Place $25
Best Original Creation - includes but not limited to fantasy animals, aliens, robots, steampunk Kids: First Place $100, Second Place $50, Third Place $25
REGISTRATIONThere are two ways to register:PRE- REGISTRATION is available at WizardingWeekend.com until Thursday October 25, 2018. Contestants must complete the form and once complete there can be no category changes. Anyone who Pre-Registers MUST still check in at the registration desk at the festival to receive line up order number.
AT EVENT REGISTRATION will be available directly outside of Breathe Fashion, Center Ithaca, 171 E State Street, Ithaca NY 14850 beginning Friday October 26, 2018 from 12pm-5pm, 10am- 12pm on Saturday October 27, 2018 for the Adult/Teen contest, and 9am-10am on Sunday October 28, 2018 for the Kids contest.
ALL CONTESTANTS MUST BE REGISTERED AND CHECKED IN at Breathe Fashion, Center Ithaca, 171 E State Street, Ithaca NY 14850 by 12pm on Saturday October 27, 2018 for the Adult/Teen contest, by 10am on Sunday October 28, 2018 for the Kids contest.
There is no fee to participate in the costume contest.
Upon check in/onsite registration, contestants will be given a number. This is your line up number. Line up begins at 12:30 for the Adult/Teen contest, at 10:30 for the Kids contest.
Please note that entry to our contest is strictly on a first come, first serve basis, and that we may cap or close registration in the event of a high volume of entrants.
RULES- Contestants must stay for the duration of the contest judging and be present for the awarding of the prizes to receive their prize.- Skits are permitted but cannot exceed 60 seconds.- No working weapons, sharp metal weapons, projectile weapons, pyrotechnics, live flames, or smoke generators. No exceptions. Electricity is not provided. If a costume requires electricity, it must be included as part of the costume.- No nudity.- No profanity. This includes messages on signs or clothes. - No political or religious statement during the competition.- No poor sportsmanship, harassment or bullying. - Anyone who violates these rules may be disqualified from the competition and asked to leave the festival.
JUDGINGThere will be no pre-judging of contestants. Our judges will be on stage during your presentation and make their determinations that way.Judges will consider the following when judging:CreativityOriginalityCraftsmanshipUse of themeShowmanship Meeting Category RequirementsA scale of 1 (being poor) to 5 (being excellent) will be used for each area. Top score is 30 points. The judges will combine the scores for each area and the top scores will determine winners. If a tie occurs, a tiebreaker judge will review the scores and make a final decision.Once the scores are calculated, awards will be given out at the end of the contest.
