Basin PBS is excited to announce our first ever West Texas Heritage Festival: A Fusion of Culture. This Festival will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Centennial Park Midland in Midland, Texas. The concept for a West Texas Heritage Festival evolved from our work on the documentary series, "Midland: Our City, Our Stories." The goal of the festival is to highlight the diversity in our communities while showcasing and educating our communities on the variety of cultures and heritages we have right here in the Permian Basin. This event was made possible with the generous support from Midland Energy Inc and the Abell Hanger Foundation.
We are asking representative groups to participate and share information/insights about your heritage. Each group will be given a 10'x10' tent, with electrical access, where they can showcase their wares, clothing, paintings, musical instruments, etc. These items must be authentic to the culture and not something that could be found on Amazon or another online outlet. We would like each heritage group to invite people into their tent, maybe offer a craft, display or story that helps teach our city more about your culture.
We will also have an outdoor stage and provide opportunities to showcase performance related expressions (traditional dance, music, song, or spoken word) that helps further highlight your cultural heritage. This is our time to shine and share what makes us unique in the Permian Basin.
In addition to the aforementioned ways to share your traditions, we are also asking you to partner with an authentic food vendor, food truck, restaurant, or caterer that can help highlight what a traditional meal looks and tastes like. We will try our very best to coordinate the proximity of a specified food vendor close to your tent.
