Rooted in the United Methodist Church, the Wesley Foundation at A-State has strong connections to local United Methodist congregations throughout Northeast Arkansas. Wesley serves as the only mainline Protestant denominational campus ministry at A-State. Although a number of students involved in the Wesley Foundation grew up in the Methodist church, many have different faith backgrounds, so Wesley seeks to be a place for people to explore and examine their faith together.
One of the most exciting new ministries at Wesley is the Bread of Life Mobile Food Pantry. Launched in the fall of 2015, the Mobile Food Pantry is a food pantry on wheels. Supported by Harrisburg UMC, this unit serves students at five two-year college campuses in northeast Arkansas. Students from Wesley volunteer their time to pack grocery bags and deliver items to their neighbors at these schools.
Programs at Wesley include weekly worship, service opportunities, and fellowship events. The leadership team supports the campus minister in providing excellent worship experiences, coordinating missions, and organizing social opportunities for students. The student ministry team at A-State is a top-notch group of servant leaders.
Still as the ministry has grown, there is much more than can be done. So, A-State Wesley is looking to hire a graduate assistant for the 2019-2020 school year. Applicants should meet the following requirements: • A Bachelor’s degree by June 2019• Experience with a campus ministry or campus religious life• Membership in the United Methodist Church is not required, but a basic understanding of the denomination is helpful• Willing to start July 1.
