Scripps Community Outreach for Public Education (SCOPE) organization is pleased to announce a scholarship program for teachers to bring their classes to Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) for a field trip. The goal of our scholarship is to give all students, regardless of background, an opportunity to share in our love for the oceans and the environment, while having an immersive firsthand experience with Scripps researchers.
Eligibility:
a) Title I school in the greater San Diego area (preference will be given to San Diego County schools)
b) science-related class (e.g. Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Physics, Marine Biology)
Award:
Reimbursement of up to $500 to cover the organizational costs related scheduling a field trip, including substitute teacher salaries and travel expenses (e.g. buses).
Operation:
Due to fiscal constraints, our scholarship is required to retroactively reimburse teachers/schools/districts for substitute and bus fees. Thus, we ask that you speak with your principal to ensure that the school could absorb these costs for a month or so until reimbursement is made available.
Application Details:
Rolling deadline
Please apply at least 1.5 months ahead of your proposed field trip date
Please fill out the event application form too, as this application is just for the scholarship and does not provide complete details on our activity offerings. You can find our event application form at the following link:
