IASP’s Ethical Statement:
The
International Association of Suicide Prevention will not abide a breach to its
Ethical Position on Voter Solicitation or Coercion.
Voter
Solicitation or Coercion is defined as: to attempt to influence or sway the
voting process in a way that seriously violates the ethical standard of IASP;
including aggressively soliciting voters, increasing membership numbers by
paying for or recruiting members for the sole purpose of taking part in the
elections, putting pressure on members to vote for them, organizing colleagues
to vote.
Such
actions are unprofessional and not in keeping with the ethics of our
organization. IASP does not expect such behavior from its members and will not
condone or tolerate it. Such behavior diminishes who we are, how we
operate and what we believe to be the highest ethical standards as applied to
all business conducted by the organization.
Please note:
Please note that those persons who receive the greatest number of nominations will be recommended for a place on the election ballot. Each member may nominate a maximum of one candidate per position and the ballot paper will contain the names of up to three candidates for each contested office, up to three for each Vice President position and up to three for each Lived Experience position.
The Election committee is also charged with ensuring inclusivity and diversity on the Board, and we encourage candidates from all sectors, (e.g. volunteers, health professionals, lived experience and academics). We also encourage nominations for candidates from all continents/WHO regions to include a range of perspectives, representative of IASP’s international spread. To ensure that as many regions as possible are represented on the Board, IASP has bylaws about inclusivity and diversity. In line with this, and because our current serving President is from Australia, our General Secretary Malaysia and our Treasurer Belgium, nominations from these countries will not be accepted to the Ballot paper. For greater detail on inclusivity and diversity of the Board, please refer to the Bylaws Article 9(f).
Nominations are not official and will not be counted
unless the following conditions are met:
·
Your returned nomination must be received by the
Election Committee by 21st October 2026.
·
Please sign your nomination sheet and include your
membership number so that the Election Committee can ascertain the validity of your
nominations.
·
Election Committee will only accept nominations from your
known identifiable email address.
Important:
by pressing the submit button below this Nomination paper will be sent to the Election Committee: Professor Jane Pirkis, Professor Rory O'Connor and Mr Ravivarma Rao Panirselvam. If you have any queries please contact the Election Committee by email to elections@iasp.info.
