Résumé:
Recent progress in the computer science makes it possible to automatically recognize historical handwritten texts with satisfying results. The implications of this technology for humanities scholars are manifold and not only comprise computer assisted transcriptions, but offers also improved possibilities for keyword spotting, information extraction and the involvement of volunteers. The Virtual Research Environment Transkribus is an attempt to make the technology available to humanities scholars and other user groups. The talk will provide insights into Transkribus, but also give some background information on the EU H2020 project READ2 (Recognition and Enrichment of Archival Documents).
