The Mayor has partnered with MENTOR Illinois on a 2-year Mentoring Challenge for 2,000 Chicagoans to serve as mentors for youth in need across our city.

A Note on Time Commitment
While program models vary, most youth mentoring programs require a one-year commitment from mentors, typically beginning in September and ending in June at the end of the school year. Generally, these programs have weekly in-person meetings for mentors and mentees, usually lasting one hour. Volunteers should anticipate a weekly commitment of 1 hour, for 9 – 10 months of the year.

However, many programs have other models, including bi-monthly or monthly meetings, with a combination of in-person and remote (phone/email) interactions. Mentoring is not one-size-fits-all. Our goal is to connect you to a program that works with your preferences.
