Awards will be presented on Tuesday, April 30 2019 at the Student Leadership Awards Dinner.

Award Descriptions:

Cheryl Alderman Memorial Award
During her years as Employer Relations Coordinator in the Career and Professional Development Center, Cheryl Alderman loved the Nichols College Community and was passionate about the value of internships for our students. Cheryl was diagnosed with ALS in Spring 2014 and passed away later that year. This award is given in her memory to a student who exemplifies Bison Pride and exhibited leadership, initiative and commitment to excellence during an internship.


Community Service Leader of the Year Award
This award is given to a student who demonstrates a strong connection to the community through service and leadership.


Intramural Athlete of the Year
This award is given to the participant who best demonstrates determination, dedication and competitiveness in a manner in which encourages good sportsmanship and Bison Pride.


Outstanding leader for the Class of (All four classes)
This award honors one student from each Class of 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 who stands out among their peers as someone who exemplifies enthusiasm and pride in Nichols College through their attitude, behavior and involvement. This student:
• Encourages Nichols spirit and pride among their peers
• Maintains high standards of learning
• Is involved in a variety of facets of campus life (involvement, athletics, work study, etc)
• Serves as a role model to other students in and out of the classroom


Program of the year
This award is presented for the program that was successfully developed, promoted and produced by a student organization. This event should have had a strong and positive impact on the Nichols College Community. Criteria include:
• Well organized, followed all campus policies
• Strong interest shown from the Nichols College community
• Program must be student run


Shining Star Award
This award is given to a student who embodies the mission of Nichols College and Student Life. This student is active in all aspects of the Nichols College community including:
• Academics
• Leadership on campus
• Work Study
• Athletic involvement or support
• Cultural development

Student Employee of the Year
This award is given to a work-study student who has made an impact on the office they work in. This student is active in all aspects of their office, including:
• Exceeding work expectations
• Showing responsibility
• Taking initiative in their position
• Creating a welcoming environment within the office they work


Student Organization Advisor of the Year Award
This award is given to the student organization advisor who best represents what it means to be a part of the Nichols Community by challenging and supporting the students they work with and helping to create community within the student organization they advise.


Student Organization of the Year
This award will be presented to the student organization that represents a strong contribution to campus life and shows leadership development among its members. This club represents the Nichols College community well based on the following criteria:
• Adherence to Student Involvement guidelines; fulfillment of all administrative expectations
• Leadership development
• Organizational cohesiveness and teamwork
• Contribution to student life on campus
• Serving as a role model for other campus organizations


Up & Comer Award
This award is presented to a first or second year student who has contributed significantly to the Nichols College campus. This student:
• Has academic success in the classroom
• Is actively involved in campus through organizations, teams and the community at large
• Shows potential for continued leadership on the Nichols College campus
• Has shown strong commitment to their involvement at Nichols College
• Athletic involvement or support
