Sycamore Grove Park (Livermore) - Winer's Hike, Sun Nov 8, 9am-11am
NOTE: We are meeting at the entrance off of Wetmore Dr.
  • Difficulty: 2.5 out of 5
  • Distance: 3.2 miles (option to extend to 4.7 miles)
  • Elevation gain: 30 ft.
  • Route: Map on Strava App (includes the optional extension)
  • This is a relatively easy hike of moderate length, as we gradually progress to longer or steeper routes as the year goes on. We do one hike per month, typically on the first Saturday or Sunday.
  • Sycamore Grove Park is nestled within the heart of Livermore Valley's wine country and orchards. There is an optional short hike up a steep hill where we can get a bird's eye view of the surrounding vineyards, where we will undoubtedly see and hear different kinds of wining.
  • The route is almost entirely flat, and the first half is paved. The second half returns back towards the parking lot on a gravel trail. This is one of the few hikes this year that is appropriate for strollers if you are considering bringing your young ones - you have the option to simply turn around at the halfway point and return to the parking lot on the paved trail the way we came in.
  • There is little to no shade on this loop - please bring a hat and sun protection.
  • For the experienced hikers in the group, there is an option to add an extra 1.5 miles towards the end of our route, bringing the total to 4.7 miles. For those who are interested, a separate group may form at the split point about 2.4 miles into the hike.
  • We will meet at 9am at the park entrance, and step off around 9:15am after going over the Outdoor Code and Leave No Trace principles.
  • We will aim to finish around 11 am.
  • Class B uniforms (Pack t-shirt, Scout hat) for your scouts if they have them. Pack t-shirts for adults encouraged but optional.
Requirement: Scout and accompanying parent must have an Annual Health Medical Record (AHMR form) on file (forms A/B1/B2) in order to hike with us.  If you have not filled one out, please bring the completed form with you to the hike and hand it to Sri or Smita. This applies to all scouts, friends, and perspective incoming scouts.

Things to bring:
  • Water bottle with at least 0.5 liters of water per person
  • Trail snacks
  • Scouts: Class B uniform (Scout hat, Pack t-shirt)
  • Parents: Pack T-shirt if you have one
  • Dress in layers
  • Cub Scout 6 Essentials (water, snack, sun protection, first aid kit, etc)
Parking:
  • There is a medium sized paid parking lot ($5) right at the entrance, but may fill early on weekends.
  • The alternative is to park at Independence Park (free), which is 0.3 miles away.
