Citizens' Academy for Omaha's Future Application
The Citizens’ Academy for Omaha’s Future – sponsored by the Metropolitan Area Planning Agency, Douglas County Health Department, Omaha by Design, Live Well Omaha, Mode Shift Omaha, Midtown Neighborhood Alliance and ONE Omaha – seeks to provide knowledge, skills, and connections that graduates can leverage to advocate for their vision for the community. The outcomes for participants are:

1) A better understanding of how, when and by whom decisions about Omaha’s built environment get made
2) A better understanding of how to engage in that process

Participants will learn how different values and decisions shape Omaha’s built environment. The workshops will include topics on local government structure, planning, city engineering, active transportation, public transit and the role of neighborhood associations. Speakers will emphasize when and how the public can impact the development process in a constructive way.
