2018-2019 MONTCLAIR ART MUSEUM PAID HIGH SCHOOL INTERNSHIP
Do you have a creative side and enjoy sharing art with others? Are you a “people person” who wants to work with children, adults, and families at the Museum? Are you a rising high school Junior or Senior interested in exploring a career in the arts?

Montclair Art Museum is now accepting applications for the 2018-2019 academic year high school internship. Apply to be a MAM intern and:
- Get a behind-the-scenes peek into the Museum
- Plan and facilitate events for other young adults
- Gain professional experience as an assistant to teaching artists during family programs, vacation camps, and children’s art classes
- Train on museum education techniques such as Visual Thinking Strategies
- Assist with marketing MAM programs to different audiences
- Meet museum professionals from different departments and learn about their roles and responsibilities

Application due date: June 25, 2018

Only six interns will be selected for this competitive program. Applicants will be invited to an in-person interview with Museum staff in July and notifications will be sent by August 15.

Intern schedule:
- From September through June, interns must commit to attending meetings at MAM every other Thursday, from 4 to 6 p.m.
- Interns must commit to assisting with Sunday Drop-in Studio programs from 1 to 4 p.m. several times a year.
- Interns will have the opportunity to assist with afterschool children’s art classes, vacation camps throughout the school year, and Family Days, based on their individual schedules.

Salary:
Interns are paid minimum wage for all meetings and hours worked. Transportation expenses are covered by the internship. Department of Labor paperwork, including parental/guardian permission, must be completed in advance of paid work. Interns must be 16 years of age by September 1, 2018.

Background:
MAM strives to better represent the diversity of the regional community. This internship provides opportunities for growth and development of students from groups typically underrepresented in the museum field, providing a professional bridge to museum careers.
