You do not need to identify as LGBTQIA+ to receive assistance from the Rutgers Newark Name Change Project. However, given time and resource constraints, we may prioritize supporting transgender/non-binary/genderfluid clients. We will always make every effort to meet the needs of everyone who signs up.

Do you prefer participating in person or via zoom?

We can accommodate Zoom appointments, but they typically take longer and may require some additional troubleshooting when filling out forms.

I understand that the court requires a $250 filing fee when a petition is filed. The court allows people earning under a certain income level to apply for a fee waiver. The income level to apply for a fee waiver is equivalent to 150% of the federal poverty level. If you would like to apply for a fee waiver, we will contact you to provide more information and make sure you are eligible.

I understand that current law students, under the supervision of an attorney, will assist me with my name change petition. I understand that these law students will treat my personal information as confidential, and I consent to my information being shared with these law students for the sole purpose of facilitating the name change process.

I understand that the Rutgers Name Change Pro Bono Project prioritizes assisting trans, non-binary, genderfluid, and non-cisgender individuals. I understand that while the Project does assist cisgender individuals in filing name change petitions, the Project may need to delay scheduling appointments for cisgender individuals in order to serve the trans, non-binary, and non-cisgender community. Completion of this survey does not guarantee an appointment.
